Standing in the Gap — no.4f
— prayer for children accused of being witches.
I’m praying not only for them but also for those who will believe in me because of them and their witness about me. The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind — just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, so they might be one heart and mind with us. John 17:20–21 (MSG)
Today’s theme:
Unity in our common purpose.
There are numerous agencies playing specific roles in the arena of children’s protection. The hope and desire is that SCWA and all its affiliates, partners, and co–workers will have a unity of mission.
SCWA has been privileged to work with local community based organisations in the D.R. Congo, in Togo, and in Nigeria. We also have active links with many people and agencies who are working in other nations. As we work in partnership, we learn from each other, having the common purpose of bringing an end to accusations and abuse. Together, through some amazing networks of connections with inspirational people, we have been privileged to contribute to an Experts Workshop at the UN, and to share in networks and forums in the UK addressing the issue of child witch accusations.
Through united effort we have supported research, promoted skills–training tools and awareness–raising resources, and equipped many leaders with an essential grounding in theology, the law, and child development. Methods and approaches have emerged which are adaptable for use in different localities and contexts and are proven to bring about a positive transformational change. United we achieve so much more.
We have learnt much from each of these partners, and found strength and encouragement from working alongside others. Our Lord prayed for the unity of his church, setting it on his oneness with the Father. This will be the catalyst for the work.
Lord, bring us to a place of unity, let each be bonded in common purpose…
Let us pray…
Lord, bring us to the place of harmony, togetherness, understanding, and unity, so that in our efforts to engage and influence, we may bear good fruit. Empower local leaders to help their church congregations and communities to explore and apprehend the roots, implications, and consequences of their attitudes and actions.
Lord, let each be bonded in common purpose to bring and end to the harm of accusations and stigma and abuse, but rather work to see children protected, and families supported and reconciled, that children may flourish at home and be safe in their community. Amen.
